![]() The Palace was built in 1867-1872 according to the project of the architect I.A.Rezanov. Among magnificent constructions in Palace Embankment, the Palace of Grand Prince Vladimir Alexandrovich (AlexanderТs II son) draws a special attention. The PalaceТs main facade facing the Neva River is of Florence Renaissance pallaccio style. Austere building walls with arch windows lack any adornishment. Solemn arch porch-portico decorated with Bremen sandstone protrudes to the street and occupies the whole pediment width. One Palace part facing Millionnaya Street was named У Gofmeistersky У and consisted of four stories. It was connected to the main building with side wings joined with each other by diametrical outbuilding. Front buildings lack any resembling stylistic design and differ in decoration features immensely. One can enjoy various styles of the Palace: Renaissance, Rococo, Mauritainian, etc. The interior of the church of Annunciation of Our Lady located on the top floor of the Palace is adorned in Russian style. Since 1920 Saint-Petersburg House of Scientists is placed here. |
